Sustainathon 2020 is now underway!

On Tuesday, 25 February Irish Funds and Grant Thornton kicked off the Sustainathon 2020 challenge with 130 entrants from 45+ firms and 8 colleges. At the kick off event, team members met each other, engaged in team building exercises and were given further details on the submission framework and assessment criteria.

There are 20 teams in total, consisting of:

  • 1 team based in Cork
  • 4 focusing on Empowerment
  • 4 focusing on Innovation
  • 3 focusing on Policy
  • 4 focusing on Process
  • 4 focusing on Technology

Each team will assign a team leader who will organise the team, agree ways of working, assign tasks etc. They will also act as the link between the team, the Sustainathon Project Team, and the mentor.

Sustainathon background

The Irish Funds Member Engagement Working Group, established in October 2018, was tasked with increasing the engagement of Irish Funds with its members. One of their action points was to develop a challenge that will allow all member firms to contribute.

Sustainathon is a collaborative event aimed at creating solutions to sustainability challenges. It is based around the UN’s sustainable development goals.

  • 2020 Focus Area 1: Climate Action -e.g. Climate Governance & Measurement / Regulation & Taxation / Climate data and knowledge gaps / Taxonomies / Sustainable Investing
  • 2020 Focus Area 2: Affordable & Clean Energy-e.g. Smart buildings / De-carbonisation / Renewable energy
