Irish Funds has launched the next phase of its Transition Year Financial Literacy Programme at St Flannan’s College in Ennis, marking the start of the programme's nationwide rollout for the 2026/27 school year.
Delivered through practical, interactive sessions led by industry volunteers, the programme helps students build financial confidence and develop essential life skills. Topics include budgeting, saving, investing, digital finance, sustainable investing and long-term financial wellbeing, equipping young people with the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.
The programme supports the objectives of Ireland's National Financial Literacy Strategy and its focus on improving financial knowledge, skills and confidence across society.
The launch event brought together students, educators, public representatives and industry leaders, including Cathal Crowe TD, Joe Cooney TD and Donna McGettigan TD. It was also a special opportunity to welcome St Flannan's past pupils Harry Goddard, CEO of Deloitte Ireland, and Chris Bergin of A&L Goodbody back to their former school to engage with students and support the initiative.
Speaking on Clare FM's Morning Focus, Irish Funds CEO Pat Lardner highlighted the importance of financial literacy in empowering young people to make informed decisions about saving, investing and long-term financial wellbeing.
The programme continues to build momentum nationwide. During the previous school year, it reached more than 800 students across 30 schools in 17 counties. One in five participants attended DEIS schools, while 45% of participants were female, highlighting the programme's broad and inclusive reach.
Irish Funds extends its thanks to the programme sponsor Deloitte, as well as the industry volunteers who contribute their time and expertise to delivering the sessions. Their involvement plays a key role in helping students develop the confidence and skills needed to navigate an increasingly complex financial landscape.
