Inspiring the Next Generation: Big SIS Event Showcases the Power of Mentorship and Future Talent Development

Mentorship continues to play a vital role in shaping successful careers, a theme brought to life at the recent “Big SIS” event hosted by the UCC Women in Business and Leadership Society. Proudly sponsored by Irish Funds, the event demonstrated the power of connection, guidance and shared experience in supporting the next generation of professionals.

Centred around the theme 'Share, Inspire, Support', the event welcomed ambitious students and accomplished women from a range of industries for a dynamic day of discussion, learning and networking. Through a series of engaging panel sessions, speakers offered practical insights into transitioning from university to the workplace, maintaining work-life balance, and laying strong foundations for early-career success.

Panellists shared reflections on their own professional journeys, highlighting both challenges and opportunities within the Funds and Asset Management industry. Their experiences provided students with valuable perspectives on navigating career pathways and building confidence in the early stages of professional life.

Many thanks to:

  • Catherine Winters – Carne Group, Irish Funds Future Talent Working Group

  • Lauryn O'Shea – Deloitte

  • Éowyn Nugent – Irish Funds

Their insights and openness made a lasting impact on attendees and underscored the importance of mentorship and representation across the sector.

At Irish Funds, supporting future talent remains a core priority. Through its ongoing Future Talent initiatives, the organisation is committed to fostering opportunities for students and emerging professionals to connect with industry leaders, gain practical knowledge, and build meaningful networks.

The “Big SIS” event stands as a powerful example of mentorship in action — and a reminder that today’s students are the future leaders of the industry.
