Brian is a Partner in the Financial Services Audit team at Deloitte. His primary expertise is in the delivery of audit and advisory services to clients in the investment management industry. Brian has over 18 years experience in the area and has worked in three key investment management jurisdictions, namely Ireland, the Channel Islands and Grand Cayman. Brian has led a number of risk and operational reviews across the sector and has extensive experience of due diligence projects for large transactions.
Iain has significant expertise in structuring, establishing and advising on a wide range of UCITS/AIFs including structured products, hedge funds, ETFs, loan/credit funds, real estate funds, private equity funds and infrastructure funds. Iain has also practiced in a leading international asset management and investment banking business. He Chairs the Irish Funds’ Front Office Steering Group and is a member of the Irish Funds’ ETF Working Group and Real Estate Working Group. He advises major global fund promoters and asset managers, investment banks, wealth managers, family offices, custodians and international prime brokers in connection with their Irish authorised fund activities.
Ms. Kimberley West has been U.S. Head of The Asset Management Exchange at Willis Towers Watson Public Limited Company since January 2018. Ms. West has the responsibility for leading the expansion of the exchange in the U.S. Ms. West has over 25 years of asset and investment management experience. Prior to joining AMX, she spent two years at Blackrock. She was a Managing Director and Senior Product Strategist at BlackRock, Inc. Ms. West was a member of the fundamental equity division of alpha strategies group and the basic value equity team, responsible for representing the investment team on a global basis to both retail and institutional clients. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, she was the Head of Hedge Fund Strategy at Highbridge Capital Management, managing business development and investor relations. Prior to that, Ms. West spent 13 years at JP Morgan and served as its Head of the Client Portfolio Manager Team. She has vast investment experience. Ms. West received a B.B.A. degree in Finance from Villanova University in 1988.
Bury Street Capital represents mainly US based boutique fund managers in Europe. The principle activity is institutional fund raising from pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, foundations, banks, family offices and independent wealth managers. Fund managers the company represents cover the long only, hedge fund and real asset categories.
Robert founded the firm in 2005 and prior to that was the Chief Investment Officer of Asymmetric Capital Management, a specialist convertible bond arbitrage hedge fund manager. Asymmetric was a joint venture between Robert and Jefferies & Company, a New York Stock Exchange-listed Global Investment Bank.
Before Asymmetric, Robert was Chief Executive of Pavilion Asset Management, a fund management company owned by Seymour Pierce Group plc, a Managing Director at Credit Suisse First Boston, where he ran their International Equity Linked sales and research business, and Bankers Trust, where he set up and ran their European Distressed Debt trading business. He originally trained as an equity portfolio manager.
He graduated from Portsmouth Polytechnic with a first class honours degree in Business Studies.
Bruce specializes in helping sophisticated investors utilize alternative investments to improve risk adjusted returns and meet aspirational goals and spending obligations. He works with financial advisors, private bankers, institutions and consultants to identify and select and implement high quality managers. Bruce is the Founder and President of the Connecticut Hedge Fund Association, the leading regional association of hedge fund professionals in the world with over 3,000 members. Bruce is also the founder of the Global Alpha Forum, a leading alternative investment management conference held annually in Stamford-Greenwich, Connecticut. Robert Harrison has been contracted by Australia and UK based Equity Trustees Ltd to represent them in the United States and the Americas. Equity Trustees offers global fund services to ensure investment managers receive global best practice governance for international funds including the Manco role for UCITS and AIFS in Europe, ACD role for UK funds and RE role for Australian funds. Robert also represents Contexo Capital, a London based, Europe and Asia institutional distribution platform. He thus brings together international distribution and governance for US Managers.
Robert has global leadership experience in Institutional Asset Management and held directorships of investment management companies in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, UK and USA. He has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Previously, he was Regional Head of North America at BNP Paribas Investment Partners (BNPPIP); President and CEO, Fischer Francis Trees and Watts (FFTW); and Global Head of BNPPIP Institutional Fixed Income. Prior, he was Australian CEO of BNPPIP and served on BNPPIP’s Asia Pacific Management Committee.
Ramona is currently in process of launching her own fund directorship partnership together with one of her colleagues from UBS. Initially, the business supports a significant number of UBS funds and is expected to expand to other clients with time. Up to now, Ramona served as Managing Director and Chef of Staff to the Head of the Americas business of UBS Asset Management as well as the Head of the Hedge Funds business, Global Products as well as Global Investment Specialists (total of up to 450 staff over the past two years). Prior to this, Ramona was responsible for UBS Asset Management's global Product Strategy, global Pricing, Propitiatory Capital as well as product development and mandate solutions for the fund of hedge funds business (UBS Hedge Fund Solutions, manager of the A&Q product range), the single manager hedge fund business (O'Connor), the UBS infrastructure and Private Equity businesses as well as product developments in the Real Estate business. Furthermore, Ramona was responsible for the ongoing servicing and management of the joint venture relationship between UBS Hedge Fund Solutions and the UBS Wealth Management channel in relation to product features and service level agreements.
Previously, Ramona was responsible for the launch and set-up of products, advisory relationships and customized solutions relating to hedge funds and fund of hedge funds for the A&Q product range, which included solutions for both institutional as well as private clients. Prior to joining UBS in 2007, Ramona ran the product development and business strategy for both hedge funds and structured products at Threadneedle Investments in London. Prior to joining Threadneedle, she worked at Coronation International in London where she was overseeing Product Development and Client Services of the fund of hedge fund business.
As a member of the Legal & Investment Structuring Group, Max is responsible for the structuring, negotiation and ongoing monitoring of investments with underlying managers, and providing counsel to each of the firm’s various departments on legal matters, including compliance with applicable laws and regulations. He also acts as legal counsel to PAAMCO’s direct trading division, which comprises both long-only and long/short strategies. In addition, Max oversees compliance for PAAMCO’s London office.
Prior to joining PAAMCO, Max was an associate in the investment funds group of Akin Gump in New York. Max graduated from the University of Amsterdam with JD-equivalent degrees in Dutch Law and European & International Public Law, and received his LLM from New York University School of Law. Max also spent time at Columbia University Law School and at the École de Droit of the Sorbonne. He is admitted to the Bar in New York.
Scott Merkel joined Lyxor US in 2006 and is responsible for overseeing hedge fund investments in the long/short equity universe. He previously spent nine years in Credit Suisse's Funds and Alternative Solutions Group where he had both portfolio management and analyst responsibilities, initially as a Generalist and then as an Equity Specialist. Before joining Credit Suisse, he was a Risk Analyst on the Fixed Income Trading Floor at UBS from 1996 to 1997. Mr. Merkel graduated magna cum laude from the University of Rochester and holds a B.A. in Economics. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Peter is an Executive Vice President at the Northern Trust Company and Head of Northern Trust Alternative Fund and Omnium Business Services (NTAFOBS), providing a broad array of integrated middle and back office administration solutions to the world’s most sophisticated global alternative fund managers and institutional investors. Peter has led the business since 2011 and has overseen significant growth as the business has more than tripled in size since the acquisition, to $400 billion in assets under administration and a staff of 1,300. Recently, Peter has been leading the full insourcing of Omnium technology and developers, reinforcing the commitment of NTAFOBS to the alternatives market and positioning the business for continued success. Prior to its acquisition by Northern Trust, Peter served as Omnium’s Global Head of Business Development and Client Service, responsible for all new business sales and client relationships. With over 20 years of industry experience, Peter has held various executive and management positions in business development, client service and operations, including as CEO of OpHedge Investment Services, another hedge fund administration company. Leading the firm through the financial crisis of ’08, he created enterprise value and sold the company and its assets at nearly eight times its initial value – improving incremental margins by 100% through increased revenues, cost reduction, process efficiencies and increased scale.
Based in Ireland, Des is Global Head of Product Development at carne Group. He has over 15 years of experience in senior roles in the funds sector. He works closely with fund clients and regulators on regulatory and listing procedures and has in-depth expertise of day to day fund operations and Irish and EU fund regulations. His experience extends to working with all types of UCITS and AIFs and he has assisted a number of hedge fund managers in launching UCITS products. Des acts as a Director to a number of UCITS and AIF Funds.
Des joined Carne from J.P. Morgan Bank (Ireland) plc, where he was a Vice President in the Bank’s Trust & Fiduciary services division in Dublin, managing a large portfolio of trustee clients, including UCITS and hedge funds managed by both large institutional and boutique managers. Prior to that Des held senior roles in the Irish Stock Exchange including as Listing Manager in the Funds Department, overseeing listing and compliance functions for funds and as an Executive in the corporate finance department. He sat on the Exchange’s policy committee, the Company Law Review Group and worked closely with the Irish Central Bank and EU bodies to adopt new regulations in the funds and securities area. Des was centrally involved in the launch of a number of new markets while at the Exchange. Des began his financial services career with the Trustee Department at Deutsche International in Dublin.
Mark Browne focuses his practice on fund advisory work, including the structuring, establishment and operation of UCITS and AIFMD compliant investment funds in Ireland. He has more than ten years of experience in the funds industry and has worked in a number of the key global centres including the Cayman Islands, Luxembourg and Dublin. This international experience is of particular assistance when advising international managers familiar with offshore structures.
Recent representations by Mr. Browne include advising a range of asset managers and service providers on the impact of the AIFMD and the establishment of new qualifying investor alternative investment funds (“QIAIFs”), as well as UCITS, and their registration for pan European distribution. Mr. Browne is a frequent author and speaker and is recommended as a leading investment funds lawyer by The Legal 500 and Chambers Europe. He is a representative of the Irish Funds Industry Association’s distributions and marketing industry working groups.
Michelle is a partner in the Asset Management and Investment Funds Group at Matheson. Michelle practises Irish financial services law and advises many of the world's leading financial institutions, investment banks, asset management companies and service providers carrying on business in Ireland or through Irish vehicles. She has extensive experience in advising a wide range of domestic and international clients on the structuring, establishment, marketing and sale of investment vehicles and products in Ireland and other jurisdictions. In particular, Michelle advises on the legal and regulatory issues surrounding the establishment of AIF and UCITS structures, including hedge funds, managed account platforms, master feeder, fund of fund, complex and bespoke structures. She also advises on the structuring, offer and sale of investment instruments and investment products, the provision of investment advice and other financial services. Michelle has advised some of the world’s largest alternative investment managers on the implementation of AIFMD and also advised on the first inward AIFMD management passport into Ireland. She also has extensive experience in advising international clients in relation to UCITS’ legislative and regulatory developments. Michelle is a member of the Irish Funds ELTIFs and Loan Funds Working Group.
Kieran Fox joined the Association in August 2007 and is the Director - Business Development for Irish Funds. As well as being responsible for working with investment managers and developing our membership offering, Kieran participates in a number of our steering groups including Distribution, Marketing & Promotion and Front Office and has led engagement on specific regulatory matters. Kieran has a BSc Finance and holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Information Systems. Prior to joining us he gained significant experience both in industry and within the regulator. He was a senior regulator and risk specialist with the Central Bank of Ireland for almost two years and prior to this spent seven years in a variety of roles across the front office within the hedge fund industry in London. Kieran represents the Association on the Summit Finuas Network Steering Committee.
David joined Dillon Eustace in 2007 and qualified as a solicitor in 2010. David advises on the establishment, authorisation, operation and maintenance of Irish regulated UCITS funds and open and closed-ended Alternative Investment Funds. David has been seconded to US and French asset management clients of Dillon Eustace in both London and Paris. David is currently based in the New York office where he advises large U.S. asset managers with respect to their Irish domiciled funds. David works closely with US asset managers, and their onshore legal advisers, to provide Irish legal advice in an efficient and timely manner. David keeps close to legal, regulatory and industry developments in the US which enables the lawyers in the Irish and Cayman offices to better understand the needs of their clients.
