Finalist Team 4 - The Green Boardroom - Sustainathon 2020

Finalist Team 4 - The Green Boardroom

Problem:

  • Deforestation is one of the main environmental issues our planet currently faces. Worldwide, the pulp and paper industry is the fifth largest consumer of energy, accounting for 4% of all the world's energy use.
  • Approximately 19 million pieces of paper are being used each year in the printing of hard copy board packs

Solution:

  • A commitment from all regulated Irish Funds to their boards being Paperless by the end of 2021.
  • Establish a schools based Reforestation Initiative to offset the continued use of paper through partnership with the Tree Council of Ireland

After attending the launch session for Sustainathon 2020, I felt that my experience of introducing an electronic board book system into SMTFSIL could be a strong idea to develop given the real benefits to both the environment and board processes.'
