- Deforestation is one of the main environmental issues our planet currently faces. Worldwide, the pulp and paper industry is the fifth largest consumer of energy, accounting for 4% of all the world's energy use.
- Approximately 19 million pieces of paper are being used each year in the printing of hard copy board packs
- A commitment from all regulated Irish Funds to their boards being Paperless by the end of 2021.
- Establish a schools based Reforestation Initiative to offset the continued use of paper through partnership with the Tree Council of Ireland
Meet the Team
Lisa Elliott joined SMT Fund Services (Ireland) Limited (SMTFSIL) in 2003. She is currently the Senior Vice President in charge of the Corporate Governance and Board Reporting Departments and the named Company Secretary of SMTFSIL and SMT Trustee Services (Ireland) Limited
'I wanted to get involved in an industry group, network with other members and be part of a challenging and interesting project. Given that ESG and company culture and conduct are extremely important themes for company boards, it is an area of particular interest to me.
After attending the launch session for Sustainathon 2020, I felt that my experience of introducing an electronic board book system into SMTFSIL could be a strong idea to develop given the real benefits to both the environment and board processes.'
Zoe Quinn has over six years' experience within the financial services industry. She is an Associate Depositary Supervisor in Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH).
'I entered the Sustainathon Programme on behalf of my workplace as I see this as a great opportunity to connect my personal interests and work environment in focusing on sustainability within the Irish funds industry. I am also a champion member of BBH's newly established Sustainability Network and enjoy considering new ways of creating better business practices.
I have a great interest in health and well-being, and environmentally friendly life habits. I am a strong believer in the power of positive thinking, and a big advocate of fitness and mental health. In my spare time I like to run, cycle and do yoga.'
Jill Shaw is the professional support lawyer for Walkers' Asset Management and Investment Funds practice in Ireland.
'I entered Sustainathon to get involved in an initiative that focuses on sustainability within the Irish funds industry; meet and collaborate with like-minded people from across the industry on a solution to a sustainabillity issue; and work on a project that will have a positive impact on our industry.
I love travelling – exploring new places and cultures, scuba diving and continuously learning, all of these activities have shown me the importance of taking action to protect our environment and encouraging sustainable actions.'
Gavin Curran is the CEO of KBC Fund Management, Ireland. He is responsible for the running of the company locally and also heads up the Balanced Portfolio Management Department of KBC Asset Management NV, which oversees the management of circa €40bln of client assets. In his role.
Gavin is a member of the Board and holds PCF and Designated Person functions of responsibility.
