The Annual Global Funds Conference hosted by the Irish Funds Industry Association (IFIA) has become a landmark in the international funds industry calendar. We are pleased to advise that the 2012 IFIA Annual Global Investment Funds Conference was held on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 September in the Four Seasons Hotel, Simmonscourt Road, Dublin 4.









The conference attracts a wide range of participants from across the international investment funds community to hear prominent industry speakers discuss current issues and challenges facing the international investment funds industry and offer the opportunity to network. The agenda builds on the dynamic and strategic content of previous years as well as covering a range of important current topics.
Headline Speakers
An Taoiseach Enda Kenny addressed the IFIA Annual Global Funds Conference on its opening day - September 12.
In 2011 an Taoiseach made a Special Address to the IFIA Annual Conference in what was his first speech to the financial sector since his election. Again in 2012 he addressed the IFIA Annual Conference demonstrating the importance of the Irish funds industry to the country.

Matthew Elderfield, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Ireland
Matthew Elderfield is Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, responsible for financial regulation. He joined the Central Bank
of Ireland in January 2010. He is responsible for prudential, conduct of business and markets supervision of financial services companies in Ireland. He is one of three executive members of the Commission (Board) of the Central Bank.Mr. Elderfield is the alternate chair of the Management Board and Board of Supervisors of the European Banking Authority. He is amember of the Governing Council of the European Systemic Risk Board, the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors and the Management Board of the European Insurance Occupational Pensions Authority.
Prior to taking up his position at the Central Bank of Ireland, he was Chief Executive of the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) from 2007-2009, with responsibility for supervision of all financial services companies in Bermuda, including the third largest global reinsurance center.
Prior to joining the BMA, he spent eight years at the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) as a Head of Department in a variety of posts, responsible for exchange and clearing house supervision, for secondary markets and listing policy and for banking supervision.
Before joining the FSA, Matthew Elderfield established the European operations of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) and held posts at the London Investment Banking Association, the British Bankers Association and a Washington-DC based consultancy firm. In March 2011, Mr. Elderfield was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at University College Cork.

Career: Claude Kremer holds Master's degrees in law and history (Grenoble/France) and a Master's degree in accounting and finance (London School of Economics/UK). Publications: Claude Kremer is the co-author of "Collective Investment Schemes in Luxembourg: Law and Practice" (Oxford University Press, 2009).
Dr. Philippa Malmgren, President of Principalis
A key attraction of this year’s conference, Dr Philippa Malmgren the President and founder of Principalis Asset Management, a financial firm based in London. In short, she helps fund managers better understand how politics, policy and geopolitics will impact on the financial markets. Investors use her insights to manage their portfolios more profitably. She and her team source deals that reflect her thematic views. Her clients include many investment banks, fund managers and hedge funds as well as Sovereign Wealth Funds, pension funds and corporations. She founded the Principalis and Canonbury Symposia, which bring together high level experts on strategic security, defense and intelligence matters to meet with central bankers and experts on sectors including agriculture to retail to brainstorm with traders in the financial markets.
She served as financial market advisor in the White House and on the National Economic Council from 2001-2002. She was the Deputy Head of Global Strategy at UBS and the Chief Currency Strategist for Bankers Trust. She headed the Global Investment Management business for Bankers Trust in Asia. She has a B.A. from Mount Vernon College and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the London School of Economics.
She is a frequent guest on the BBC’s Today Program, Newsnight, a guest presenter on CNBC’s Squawk Box (UK and US). She has written for Investment Week, The International Economy, International Fund Investment Magazine and Institutional Investor Magazine

Donal O'Mahony is the Global Strategist in Davy Capital Markets and a director on the main board of Davy. An economist by training, Donal worked in both the Department of Finance and Central Bank of Ireland during the 1980's before his switch to the private sector. Donal completed 16 years in investment banking working on the management of multi-currency fixed income portfolios before joining Davy in 2001. He is a former Chairman of the Society of Investment Analysts in Ireland and was for many years an Executive Board Member of the European Federation of Financial Analyst Societies (EFFAS). Donal is a multi-award winner for fixed income research and a regular commentator in the Irish and international press.

Alan is a qualified chartered accountant, involved in publishing for 15 years. He co-founded funds europe in 2002 while he was managing director of Union Press Limited from 2001 until 2007. He was managing director of Harper Trade Journals Limited for five years from 1996. Previously he was commercial adviser to Lipper Analytical Europe, publisher of The European Fund Directory, and a director of Professional and Business Information Plc, publisher of the UK Fund Industry Directory.
Alain Dubois, Chairman, Lyxor Asset Management
Alain Dubois is Chairman of Lyxor Asset Management since October 2003. Alain joined Lyxor in 2000 as Member of the Management Board and Head of Development. Before that, he worked at Lazard Frères et Cie and Commerz Financial Products. Prior to that, Alain held senior positions at the French Finance Ministry. Alain holds diplomas from École Polytechnique, ENSAE and Ecole Nationale d'Administration (ENA) and a law degree from Paris university.
Chris Turpin, Global Head of Product, First State Investments (‘FSI’).
In his role, Chris is responsible for the strategic development and on-going product management of FSI’s products across our EMEA, Asian, Australian and American businesses. He is a Board Director for FSI in the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong.Prior to joining FSI in September 2003, Chris worked at Northern Trust Global Investments as Director of Product Management. He commenced his career at Price Waterhouse in London specialising in the investment management industry. Jeremy has extensive experience in financial services law, with a particular emphasis on investment funds and securities issues. He advises on the establishment of institutional and retail collective investment schemes in a wide variety of jurisdictions. He also advises fund management and trustee organisations on securities, licensing, regulatory and compliance issues and advises institutional trustees.
Manooj Mistry, Head of ETF Structuring, Deutsche Bank
Manooj Mistry joined Deutsche Bank in 2006 and is Head of db X-trackers UK, Deutsche Bank's ETFs. Prior to Deutsche Bank, Manooj was with Merrill Lynch International in London where he was responsible for the development of the LDRS ETFs, the first ETFs to be launched in Europe and also worked on fund vehicles for the issuance of structured products. Manooj graduated in Economics and Business Finance from Brunel University.

Paul Price joined Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) as the Head of International Sales, covering EMEA, Asia and Latin America in September 2010. Paul most recently served as Global Head of the institutional business at Pioneer Global Asset Management. Prior to joining Pioneer, Paul was head of MFS Investment Management’s non-U.S. institutional business. Paul has also served as an associate director on the fixed income team at Lombard Odier. Paul is a director of Morgan Stanley Investment Management International Ltd, Morgan Stanley Investment Management (Australia) Pty Limited, and Morgan Stanley Saudi Arabia. Paul received a Bachelor degree of Commerce from the University College Dublin and a Master degree in Investment and Treasury from Dublin City University. Paul is also registered with the FSA.
Andrew Fisher, Chief Executive, Towry.
He has held this position since 2006 and was previously Chief Executive of Cox Insurance Holdings. Andrew has held a number of other senior positions in the financial services industry, including Chief Executive of the Coutts Group.
Furio Pietribiasi, Managing Director at Mediolanum Asset Management Ltd. and Mediolanum International Funds Ltd, and member of the Board of Mediolanum International Life Ltd. Furio is responsible for Irish Operations of Mediolanum in Ireland and in Luxembourg he is Chairman of Gamax Management AG and member of the Board of Mediolanum Specialities SICAV SIF. Furio was previously responsible for product development of funds and insurance products, distributed in Italy, Germany and Spain and he also oversaw the selection and the relationships with the external investment advisors. He is also currently Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Irish Association of Investment Managers and member of the Council of IFSC Ireland. Furio is also part of the Taoiseach Department Working Groups for the Funds and Asset Management.
Helga Mepham, Managing Director, Head of Build and Product Management iShares EMEA, BlackRocK
Helga Mepham, Managing Director, is a member of the iShares EMEA Product team and is responsible for the build, implementation and range management of iShares European ETFs. She is also Business Manager for the EMEA Product team and in addition is the EMEA lead for iShares’ Global ETF Reform programme.Ms Mepham’s service with BlackRock dates backs to 2007, including her years with Barclays Global Investors (BGI), which merged with BlackRock in 2009. Ms Mepham joined BGI from Bluerock Consulting where she had spent 6 years managing large systems and business process changes initiatives for clients Prior to working for Bluerock Consulting, Ms Mepham spent 2 years in PwC's Financial Services Consulting Practice and 2 years as a Management Consultant within KPMG's IT Consulting Practice working for clients such as Citigroup, National Australia Bank, ABN Amro, DrKB and Goldman Sachs.
Ms Mepham graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 1991 with a BA (Hons) degree in International Business and in 1992 with an MSc degree in Information Technology and Management.
Jeffrey Sargent, Executive Vice President, Pimco Europe Ltd
Mr. Sargent is an executive vice president and chief administrative officer for PIMCO's European operations. In this role he oversees investment management support, pooled funds operations, technology and facilities management. Previously, he managed PIMCO's shareholder services, fund statistics, and fund development and support groups across a broad range of pooled fund products. Prior to joining PIMCO in 1989, Mr. Sargent conducted project management and legal editing for the State of Oregon. He has 26 years of business management experience and holds an MBA from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University and an undergraduate degree from Utah State University.
Paul O Connor, CEO, Credit Suisse Life (Ireland) Ltd Paul is a director with Credit Suisse Group and leads the Groups cross border life assurance entity based in Dublin. Paul has 16 years experience in the financial services sector split in equal proportion between fund management and life insurance. Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Paul was General Manager of Generali PanEurope Limited, a multi faceted life insurance subsidiary of Generali Group. Amongst other areas he has extensive expertise in the tailoring and structuring of investment vehicles to enable asset admittance to policies of life insurance. Rhodri Mason, Head of UCITS Management, Man Group
Rhodri Mason is Head of UCITS Management at Man Group plc, responsible for the development of Man's onshore UCITS business. Following its recent acquisition of GLG, Man Group now has over 35 UCITS funds, domiciled across Luxembourg, Dublin and the UK, making it one of the largest hedge fund providers of UCITS in the market. Prior to joining Man Group, Rhodri was a Director of Product Development at BlackRock. Rhodri holds a degree in the Social & Political Sciences from St Catharine's College, Cambridge.

Ted Hood, Chief Executive Officer, SourceTed is CEO and responsible for ensuring that Source - through its employees, partners and service providers - protects the assets of our clients, delivers asset performance and provides the honesty, transparency and service that investors deserve. Tom Murphy is a senior partner at Mercer and US Head of Fiduciary Management at the firm. Mercer advices on client assets in excess of $5trn and manages over $60bn in delegated assets. Tom also has global responsibility for our investment services to multi-nationals and is the investment leader for Mercer's US Financial Strategy Group (FSG). The FSG specializes in the provision of de-risking / LDI advice and implementation to large corporate clients. Tom has worked with many large corporate clients and trustees groups across the world on both an advisory and a delegated basis. Tom has been with Mercer since 1997. Morgan, Sheenagh is the Client and Industry Research Executive in Worldwide Securities Services focusing on egulation and strategy for the Asset Management, Insurance and Pensions markets. Joined J. P. Morgan in 2001. Previously she ran a consulting business for 7 years and held senior roles at Prudential Portfolio Managers, Capel-Cure Myers and Prolific. Sheenagh qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Touche Ross in 1982 and has MA in Political Science and Jurisprudence.
